Heavily Brewing Company – FLB Featured Brewery

Finger Lakes Brew is excited to feature the Heavily Brewing Company as the July 2017 featured brewery of the month.

What is it about the Finger Lakes region that makes it such a special place for craft breweries?

NYS has done amazing things to help out the farm manufacturers… in the 70s it was the Farm Wineries and in the 21st century, it’s the Farm Breweries (and cideries and distilleries).  This region is growing FAST and having the growth in breweries (and other farm libations) in the area is, in my opinion, a good thing… the draw to come visit is immense!  So many places to see and taste!!!

Where does the name “Heavily” come from and why did you choose it?

No surprise to those that know us, but we take our drink seriously.  “Heavily” got it’s name from a night (well… ahem, early morning) of drinking heavily!  Simple as that.

Do you (the owners) have a favorite beer that you brew? If so, what is it and why?

Wayne is our brewer and his Winter Seasonal is a favorite of his.  As the name states, it’s a seasonal brew and available at the brewery in our winter months.  Lightly spiced brown ale with notes of coriander, orange peel, nutmeg, & allspice.  It’s quite delicious and won a gold medal in a recent location competition!

Among your customers, what would you say is the most popular beer?

Our biggest selling beer is our Apex IPA; seconded by our No Doubt Oatmeal Stout – mix them together into a black and tan and you have our Brown Cow!

HBC has partnered with a number of other local breweries to offer a wide variety of beers on tap. What was the motivation for partnering up?

The partnership we have with other breweries, wineries, cideries and distilleries is so that we can offer a variety of Finger Lakes libations to try in one place.  We rotate our offerings of guest beers to give our customers a great variety and it keeps our menu fresh!  There’s always something new to try at Heavily.

The HBC Growlers club looks incredible. What do people love so much about it?

The HBC Growler club is a pretty sweet deal… and not many know about it!  Members receive one free 64oz growler of HBC beer of their choice per month, for 12 months.  They also receive 15% off of a 64oz growler fill of ANY beer we have on tap.  Members also get a pint on us in their birthday month!  Cost details are on the website (www.heavilybrewing.com). We also welcome any growler to be filled at our joint – we don’t really care what you want your beer put into, we just strive to give you the best we can offer!

Looking at your events calendar on your website, It’s clear that you are big on hosting live music. What is it about craft beer and listening to live music that is so special?

Heavily is HUGE with offering up live music – free of charge too!  There’s nothing better than kicking back and enjoying a cold craft brew while listening to live music.  It just makes you happy.  Almost all of the musicians that play at Heavily are local to the area too – it’s important to Heavily to support our community!

Why should people stop by Heavily Brewing  and buy a drink?

Why not?  We have a LOT to offer!

– NYS Craft ales

– NYS distilled spirits

– NYS wines

– NYS Ciders

– Converted an old dairy barn and turned her into a pretty sweet brew pub with two floors!

– Games to play too! Pool, Foosball, Cornhole, Giant Jenga, Yard Yahtzee

– Deck with amazing views (Brew with a view!)

– Patio for outdoor seating and a campfire area for evening fires!

– Live Music in the summer every Fri & Sat night!  In the winter months, every Saturday!

– We’re more than a tourist destination… we’re a place where the locals come to hang too!

– Oh, and we do a mean Grilled Reuben sandwich too!
